WVELA Events

Upcoming 2017 Annual Conference at Lakeview Golf Resort

WVELA's annual conference will be on October 6 and 7, 2017 (Friday & Saturday), at Lakeview Golf Resort and Spa in Morgantown, West Virginia. Attendees will earn nine West Virginia CLE hours (including one ethics hour). The speakers at this year's conference are:

1. Jessica H. Donahue Rhodes Lawyer Disciplinary Counsel Office of Disciplinary Counsel:  2017 Ethics Update for West Virginia Lawyers: Rule Changes, Information You Need To Know To Ethically Manage Your Practice and Recent Disciplinary Cases

2. Joseph Cohen:  Executive DirectorACLU of West Virginia Foundation: Topics to include: Recent ACLU-WV cases of interest to the employment bar including: (A) a case in which they are representing a police officer who was terminated for not shooting a young African American man that he correctly deemed was not a threat to himself or others; (B) the ACLU's recent settlements on behalf of same sex married couples who had been denied health insurance benefits available to opposite sex married couples, (C) The ACLU's “viral” amicus brief on behalf of the defendant in coal magnate Bob Murray’s defamation lawsuit against comedian John Oliver.
